This is a pretty good article that really gets to the heart of what we mean when we say that we are self-aware. In the end, it’s our decisions and actions that make us who we are.

The problem with self-awareness is that it doesn’t stop us from being stuck in our own minds. We can’t stop replaying the past, or the future, or who we are in the present. This keeps us stuck in our thoughts. It’s important to recognize this because we can influence ourselves by changing our minds, acting in ways we know will make us less confused, and doing things that we know will make us more confident and comfortable with ourselves.

I think the problem is the idea that self-awareness is a separate thing from self-consciousness. It isnt. Self-awareness is the awareness of your own thoughts, decisions, and actions. Self-consciousness is feeling like you are the center of the universe and you dont need to worry about what others think of you.

When you are with people who are self-aware you will realize that you are behaving in a way that is consistent with your self-awareness.

This is one of the most famous examples that we have found of self-awareness in humans. If you look at the number of times I’ve used the word “self-aware”, you will realize that I have never been self-aware. Self-awareness is one of the most-common reasons for being lazy and making mistakes. Not only can you be lazy, you can also be self-aware.
