This PHP function is a new addition to our site. We’re now including it on several blog posts to help people learn new ways to use str_pad to help prevent SQL Injection attacks.
str_pad is a PHP function that takes a string and a character set and does str_pad using that character set. As the name suggests, it can pad a string with a character set. The character set it uses is defined by the current PHP installation, which is usually set by the Apache server. The string used to pad with the character set is any string that will use that character set.
Because we’re not using the latest version of PHP, str_pad isn’t compatible with the latest version of PHP. It’s a function that’s not compatible with PHP’s “latest” PHP version, so we’re stuck using a character set that doesn’t use any of the characters that str_pad uses.
